We work together with Made in Hackney who opened their doors in 2012 as the UK’s first fully vegan community cookery school and charity. Their aim is to help people lead healthier, happier, more connected, environmentally sustainable lives. Since lockdown started, MIH have needed a space to continue their great work to help the local community, we’re truly glad to be able to help by providing a kitchen space for them to teach and provide thousands of meals for the local homeless.
They collaborate with communities to showcase and develop skills, knowledge and inspiration to grow, cook and eat more plants.
The kitchen started as a response to global and local crisis – health inequalities, food access and climate change. These interconnected issues drive our mission to bring about positive change in the areas of community, health and environment with delicious, culturally varied, nutritious plant-based food at the centre of all we do.
Made In Hackney is a local response to a series of global crises:
– How to feed a growing population in an ethical, environmentally sustainable way
– How to tackle chronic ill health particularly (but not exclusively) amongst vulnerable, low income and marginalised groups
– How to support and nurture ethical, local food entrepreneurship
– How to bring together diverse communities to enhance social cohesion and green the urban environment
